For almost three decades the European Aeronautics Days (AeroDays) have been the leading event in aviation research and innovation, mirroring the priorities and strategies set within the European Union Research Framework Programs. The eighth AeroDays built on the achievements of Horizon 2020, the biggest EU research and innovation program to date, and was based on a new approach by integrating two events organized as Tandem- AeroDays19.20, in Romania in 2019 and Germany in 2020.
The first event of the series took place in Romania/Bucharest at the end of May 2019, under the EU presidency of Romania. The event was hosted at the Palace of Parliament for two and a half days, followed by one day with optional visits to prestigious Romanian aeronautics industry companies.
#AeroDays2020 in Berlin was the second of two integrated Tandem-AeroDays19.20 events and for the first time in the history of AeroDays events was planned and conceptualized to partner with an International Air Show, the Innovation and Leadership in Aerospace (ILA Berlin) that was scheduled to take place from 12-17 May, 2020.
As the original date of the event as part of the Innovation and Leadership in Aerospace – ILA Berlin, in May 2020, due to the political decisions made necessary by the global COVID-19 pandemic had to be switched to late November 2020, the format of the event had to be adapted to the then currently valid regulations, too. The Innovation and Leadership in Aerospace – ILA Berlin was cancelled without any physical replacement in 2020/2021.
The project was coordinated by INCAS – National Institute for Aerospace Research “Elie Carafoli” having as consortium partners DLR – Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt e.V. (Germany), UEFISCDI- Executive Unit for Financing Higher Education, Research, Development and Innovation (Romania) and BDLI – German Aerospace Industries Association (Germany).
